What is Human-AI Interaction Patterns?
Recurring, named structures for how humans and generative AI collaborate: delegate, draft-iterate, critique, scaffold, and extend. Each pattern assigns different cognitive work to human and machine. Choosing the right pattern for a task determines whether AI amplifies judgment or just generates volume.
My perspective
In practice
I use these patterns deliberately. Delegate: give the agent a well-specified task and review the output. Draft-iterate: have it produce a first pass, then refine together. Critique: use the agent as a rigorous reviewer of your own work. Scaffold: ask it to break a vague problem into structure. The fastest way to improve AI collaboration is to name the pattern you are in: ambiguity between patterns is where most wasted AI time lives.
