What is Async-First Communication?
A communication philosophy where the default mode is asynchronous (written messages, documents, recorded videos) rather than synchronous (meetings, calls, real-time chat). Meetings become the exception, reserved for decisions, alignment, and human connection, not the default for sharing information.

In practice
Async-first doesn't mean async-only. The discipline is choosing the right mode for the purpose: write a document instead of scheduling a meeting, record a Loom instead of a live walkthrough, use threaded comments instead of a group call. The payoff is enormous for distributed teams: fewer meetings, deeper focus time, better documentation as a natural byproduct, and inclusivity across time zones.
