Futures Thinking

What is Futures Thinking?

A disciplined approach to exploring multiple plausible futures rather than predicting a single one. Uses tools like scenario planning, trend analysis, and weak-signal detection to help organizations make more resilient strategic decisions under uncertainty.

My perspective

In practice

Most strategy processes assume a largely stable future. Futures thinking is the antidote: build three or four divergent scenarios (not best/base/worst), then stress-test your strategy against each. A strategy that only works in one scenario is a fragile strategy.
